Structure

SIP's panels are structural so minimal additional work is required to support the full building. There are different thicknesses of panels but I decided to go for 144mm thick panels throughout which gives very good insulation properties. Wooden beams are built into the structure at all the edges and top and bottom of the walls. I also added beams over the door for extra structural support.

The roof also has wooden beams running from the front of the building to the back rather than standard SIP joining strips. This ensured the roof is not only structurally strong, but also aided with construction making it very easy to assemble with an additional pair of hands.

Assembly of the walls took a single day and the roof panels an additional half a day. The roof is slightly raised at the front to allow for rain run-off from the rear of the building.
